We finally found a place. It's a decent 3-3 for relative bay area cheap. My demands really came down to these items:
  1. high water pressure
  2. bountiful hot water
  3. high shower heads
  4. broadband availability
  5. patio sufficient for bbq
  6. location (Mountain View)
  7. cleanliness and style
Based on 1, 2, and 3 you can probably tell showers are really important to me. There's no torture worse than having to take a luke-warm shower, or having to wash under my arms while crouching.

The place we found has all of my demands except for cleanliness and style. I'd put its cleanliness at about a 7, and style at about a 3. Its got the super ugly dark stained 1960's style oak wood cabinets, and the ugly dark brown shag carpet. And while the dark green linoleum in the kitchen matches the cabinets perfectly, it went out of style about the same time Tony Manero's chest hair and gold chains tore up the dance floor in Saturday Night Fever.

The location isn't ideal. It's in Sunnyvale, perhaps 100 meters or so from the Mountain View border, and perhaps 1.5 miles from downtown Mountain View. Not within walking distance of downtown Mountain View, but definitely within rollerblading distance.

My rent and utility bills will be ~$250 less per month. That extra $3k will be handy next year while house hunting.

The unit is both upstais and downstairs - no worrying about the upstairs neighbors walking around in high-heals. Also, all three rooms are quite large. The smallest is larger than the room I am presently living in.

Move in is sometime early next month.

Hey Eric! How did the haircut turn out? I am sooooo excited about the haircutting/shearing that you have undergone. Please send a photo...I think that Steve said that the place with the hotels for his graduation is quite a distance from Quantico, so I think that whatever Mills was correct. If you find something better, I am all for it! Love from Mom
Steve —
The hotel I mentioned is in near Potomic Mills, VIRGINIA. About 5 miles from Quantico. I sent an e-mail with all the information. Sorry for the confusion. This week has been horrible.

I'm glad you found a place. Maybe you can install disco lighting, and have some retro parties!

Your new place sounds hilarious. I can see the ugly linoleum and cabinets still being there... but shouldn't the ugly carpet have been replaced since 1970?
Eric —
Carpet is easy to replace... but the landlord who's stuck in 1970 isn't :-).
