I arrived in Florence early this morning. I travelled via train through Austria, just south of Vienna. I have never seen such a beautiful land. Every bit of Austria that I saw was similar to Yosemite. Huge mountains covered in green forest, except where the cliffs drop off by hundreds of feet.

My train arrived in Florence at 6:15 am. I was perhaps a bit more eager to see things than I should have been. I set out and discovered the tourist office was closed. The public restrooms were closed. McDonald's was closed. I did, however, have a map and was able to find my way downtown. As luck would have it, the second hotel I went to had a room available, and they allowed me to check in at 7:30 am. I took a short nap, showered, had lunch, and here I am!

I've uploaded some photos! All of them can be found here http://ejgumtow.com/euro2004. I have to apologize to my dad because I told him I would put the photos inline. I can't do that from this internet cafe. I also must apologize to those on a modem - the photos are quite large.

I've got over 128 megabytes of photos and videos. These are a select few photos:

Erika, me, and Osci at Lake Balaton

Me and Osci enjoying our pizza
Me at the Parliament building courtyard
The view of the Parliament on the Danube River
The Parliament's ceiling
The view outside my hotel in Florence
David's Michelangelo

Today I'll be doing the standard Florence things. So much to do! I'll write more perhaps on Wednesday.

Hi Eric: Looks like you are really having a gt time. Everything is beautiful. Maybe after our U.S. is as old as Europe, it will look like that also. It is so amazing that all the old blgs. are still being used. They tear down so many of ours. Liked your pics. The pizza looks pretty much like pizza here. Love, G.Ma

Awesome!! The pics are SOO amazing!! Enjoy the rest of your time over in Europe!!

Ciao!

Wow, what beautiful country! I always take a pic of the view outside my hotel rooms, too. :)

Glad you're having a good time!
