It's taken me a week to make my first post. That says something about how busy we've been. Sorry, no photos today. I can't get the USB card reader to function with the computer in this internet cafe.

I've had a great time so far. My flight from San Fran to Amsterdam and to Budapest were very uneventful. Hungary is beatiful from the air. It reminded me alot of west Austin, except Hungary has the Danube River and one other beautiful river whose name escapes me at the moment.

On Saturday Erika and I met up with some of her friends here in Budapest. I can't remember the name of the place. The European soccer championships are taking place for the next few weeks. As you know I love soccer. I enjoyed watching the matches while Erika's friends talked in Hungarian half the time, and they enjoyed talking with an American the other half the time. It was really cool.

The next day we headed southwest by train to Lake Balaton. Erika's family owns a nice cabin right on the lake. Erika's brother, Usci, was there to meet us. Lake Balaton is beatiful and I wish I had some pictures to share now. We stayed at the cabin for three days. Usci is studying to be a judge. As you can guess Usci and I had some great debates about politics. Mostly we agree but he thinks Americans are stupid for some things, like sexual harassment lawsuits.

I was able to see the International Space Station from Balaton. That was a highlight for me.

After three days at Balaton we headed southeast to Pecs. Pecs is the most beatiful city I have ever been to. I have so much to say about Pecs but my time is short. I promise to write more later.

After Pecs we came back to Budapest. Erika is upset with me now that I want to waste my time on the Internet :-). We have so much to do today.

The biggest thing in the news here is that the first Hungarian died in Iraq yesterday. I was looking forward to forgetting about Iraq for atleat a couple weeks... I am sad that isn't possible now.

On Sunday I head to Florence. I will find another internet cafe then. Until then, everybody I miss you and as much as I am enjoying Europe I am very much looking forward to returning to the states.

Eric-

Glad your having a great time. Take lots of pictures. We'll be anxious to see them. The weather has warmed up here to the 90's and I'm hoping that it will be warm at the beach soon.

See you when you get back
