It's not really appropriate to wish someone a Happy Memorial Day. Probably more appropriate is Contemplate Memorial Day.
At any rate, it's certainly nice to have an extra free day this week. A student at the ATLAS program was nice and invited myself and a few others from the program over for dinner. The student's husband is a really cool guy. We have a lot in common, I think.
Over the course of dinner a few items of conversation opened that made me think.
People who don't know computers won't have a job in the near future. At first I agreed with it but now I think that statement is incorrect. Think about my company. My company is a computer company. We make computers. You can't find a more pure computer company. Yet only 600 of 2800 of our employees are engineers. What do the other 2200 do? Customer service (answering phones), professional service (installations), marketing (customer interfacing), and sales (taking money from the customer). Those four categories total are probably 1800 employees. I'm not saying those positions don't require a basic knowledge of computers (email), but they certainly don't require knowing a PCI bus or IDE controller. I think as long as one can push around a mouse, and click, one will find a job in the future.
The young generation of kids these days is the worst ever. I don't buy that at all. I'm willing to bet every older generation says that about the younger generation. Case in point, have you seen pictures of Marilyn Manson? He's a pop music icon for the younger generation.
To most people he looks like a satan-worshiping drug addict. Someone you wouldn't want your kid idolizing. But when I look at him, I see somebody totally different.
Yep, Little Richard was thought to be a manifestation of the devil back in his day. A pop music icon for the younger generation. Someone you wouldn't want your kid idolizing.
Kids today are fine. They share the vast majority of experiences you had when you were a kid. It's just that things look different. You have to abstract those differences away.
Yep, we're all getting old - that's why we roll our eyes and say "kids today..." They are not any more corrupt than we were.

I understand the kids today. I just wish I could understand their music. to me, it just isn't music.

I would say, based on the lyrics of some of Manson's music (and many other musicians these days), that these singers have the potential to be a true "manifestation of the devil".
