Saturday was the annual San Francisco Texas Exes BBQ. This year was my fourth year to attend. All previous three times were great. It's fun to talk with people you share a common background. People who lived in the same dorm, people who had the same professor, people with whom had common friends, that sort of stuff.
It's interesting that the BBQ is for all of the bay area. The bay area has a population somewhere above seven million, quite a few of whom are Longhorns. And this guy, who owns a small house in Sunnyvale with a tiny backyard, hosts the BBQ. I would not want to see his place the day after!
In other interesting news this weekend...
Google's initial public stock offering has been delayed until late this month or early September. I'm watching Google's IPO closely. Not because I have any Google stock, or will purchase any. I'm interested because Google is in Mountain View. I want to purchase a house in Mountain View. When Google IPO's there will be hundreds of instant millionaires in Mountain View looking to buy homes. No way I can compete with that. But here's my plan.
Google IPO's
Mountain View gains hundreds of millionaires
House sales shoot up
House prices shoot up (steps 1 through 4 are guaranteed)
A better search technology emerges
Google's stock plunges
Millionaires from step 2 no longer millionaires
Former millionaires have to sell their houses
House prices plunge (steps 5 through 9 are a figment of my imagination, and not likely to occur)
Oh, and I need all that to happen in sixth months.
This dude wants to build a hotel in space Hey, sounds crazy but one should never underestimate what a billionaire can accomplish. Especially since Scaled Composites will be putting tourists into space starting this year.
